Scanyacht 391 - Scandinavian Quality, Performance & Comfort
This Scanyacht 391, designed by renowned naval architect Nils-Eric Olofsson and built in Sweden by Scanyacht AB, is a superb example of classic Scandinavian yacht design--strong, safe, and beautifully balanced. Launched in 2000, she offers an ideal blend of performance sailing, easy short-handed handling, and comfortable cruising accommodation.
With her 11.92m LOA, 3.6m beam, and 1.9m draft, the Scanyacht 391 is a powerful yet well-mannered cruiser. A substantial 2,200kg ballast keel and 6,600kg displacement deliver excellent stability and offshore capability, while her fractional rig and self-tacking jib make her exceptionally easy to sail, even single-handed.
Below decks, the yacht features a warm and inviting interior finished in matt-varnished mahogany, complemented by teak and holly cabin soles. Accommodation includes a forward V-berth and a large aft double cabin, providing comfortable sleeping for extended cruising. The spacious saloon is practical and welcoming, ideal for entertaining or relaxing at anchor.
The galley is well equipped with two stainless steel sinks, a two-burner stove with oven, and a 90-litre Isotherm fridge/freezer, making life aboard easy and functional. The head includes a marine toilet, wash basin, and separate shower, supported by a pressurised hot and cold freshwater system, 22-litre hot water cylinder, electric shower sump pump, and a 60-litre holding tank.
On deck, the yacht is clearly set up for serious sailing and effortless handling. Features include a Selden fractional rig, Furlex twin-foil roller furling, single-line reefing led back to the cockpit, backstay adjuster, and quality Andersen winches. Pedestal steering with a leather-covered wheel, compass, and well-organised control layout make helming comfortable and intuitive.
The sail inventory is extensive, including a fully battened mainsail, self-tacking headsail, storm sails, multiple headsails, and both symmetric and asymmetric spinnakers, offering versatility for cruising or performance sailing.
Ground tackle is robust, featuring double stainless bow rollers, a Maxwell electric windlass (installed 2021) with helm control, plough anchor with 51 metres of 8mm chain, and a spare stainless anchor--providing confidence when anchoring in all conditions.
Powered by a reliable Volvo Penta 2040 (40hp) saildrive, the yacht is economical, dependable, and well suited to long coastal or offshore passages. Additional comforts include a teak-laid cockpit, moulded swim platform with stainless ladder, generous dodger and bimini, modern navigation electronics including a Raymarine Axiom+ 9 chartplotter, and comprehensive safety equipment including EPIRB and lifejackets.
Antifouled in August 2025, this Scanyacht 391 presents as a capable, well-equipped cruiser with true Scandinavian pedigree--equally at home cruising the coast or undertaking longer passages.
Inspection is highly recommended for sailors seeking quality, performance, and timeless design.
