New Boats
Total Eclipse is an exceptional Blue Water Cruiser built to handle the toughest conditions with comfort and ease. Adams are renowned for their performance and seaworthiness. Extensive upgrades have improved performance and allow single handed sailing with ease. She is a highly regarded vessel and a pleasure to sail.
Built to survey and the exacting standards of the Trewartha Brothers yard in Warrnambool Victoria in 1985. She was commissioned by a South Australian Trawlerman as his personal cruising vessel, with no expense spared.
Fibreglass & foam composite construction, 50mm thick below the waterline, 32mm thick above and 25mm deck. A sugar scoop was added later, increasing waterline by a metre and providing excellent access to the vessel.
The hard dodger provides great protection and can be stood upon to stow the main in it's boom bag with Lazy Jacks. A modern Seldon Boom with single line reefing all leading back to the cockpit makes handling an ease. Hydraulic vang controlled from the cockpit and spring loaded so you can not drop the boom if the topper is forgotten. The Windslyce roller cars on the mast make raising the fully battened mainsail a cinch.
She is Cutter rigged, both furling with a composite overlapping Genoa headsail, No 2 & 3 Yankee cut jibs and Asymmetrical spinnaker in a sock. Running backstays and adjustable backstay. Standing Rigging replaced Sep 2023. Running rigging regularly replaced and in excellent condition. Keel stepped mast. Fin keel and skeg hung rudder. She has a solid new rig with a good range of sail options.
Eight Barlow winches with a couple of monster primaries. All two speed. 6 man life raft mounted in front of the mast. SS Davit
With a slight V at entry through to the fore of the keel in the renowned wine glass shape she rides gracefully through the waves. No slamming like modern hulls. A 50% ballast ratio (8 ton dry weight with 4 ton in the keel) allows her to handle the toughest conditions with comfort and ease.
Total Eclipse is beamier than most Adams providing more space below. She is fitted out in Fiji Yaka hard wood still presenting beautifully. A double vee berth forward and two double quarter berths aft. In the saloon lee cloths stowed beneath the cushions provide two secure sea berths. All interior fabrics near new and in excellent condition. Single head with electric toilet and hot water shower. Chart table starboard, facing athwartship. This is one of the last Catana 58 catamarans ever built, and she was, more or less, a custom project and meant to be the rocket ship version of this all time classic world voyaging catamaran. Her owner made use of carbon fiber in every area of the build to bring down her weight. Careful decisions were made at every turn on her build to make her the fastest Catana 58 ever built. And she is that.
Go over her specifications, examine her interior, her inventory, and what you have here is a near-new boat, built to the highest possible standards, for an amazing price. A yacht such as this could not be duplicated today for anything less than US$2,300,000. She has every possible piece of high-end equipment you can add to a performance cruising cat.
She is one of my personal “best values” catamarans for someone wanting a near new boat of this size that has the get up and go to sail anywhere in the world in speed and comfort.
